Sunday Stills: Groups of Birds

DSC_2821 DSC_2866   I haven’t been actively blogging for a while, but I saw this challenge for groups of birds and I knew I had some photos that fit. These first two are from the St. Louis Zoo: the puffins and the flamingos.

Now it’s out in the wilds of Botswana in Africa. Here at a waterhole are yellow-billed stork, sacred ibis, spoonbills, and pelicans.

Sunday Stills: The Long and Winding Road

100_1517

I have been absent from blogging with the arrival of my first grandchild, a wonderful little boy. This challenge spoke to me because I have been on a lot of long and winding roads in the past few years. This road and sign can be found on Lopez Island in the San Juans of Washington State.

Travel Theme: Horizon

DSC_0175DSC_0650

Here are two golden hour horizons from my recent African safari in Botswana, the first in the Okavango Delta, and the second by the Savute Spillway at Linyanti Camp. I hope to get around to blogging about this incredible experience. It is a daunting task to sift through so many photographs. Africa is an experience like no other. I feel homesick and I’ve only been there once.

Have you ever been in a submarine?  If you haven’t, would you want to?

I have never been in a submarine and that’s OK with me. I don’t want to go underwater.

Are you a listener or talker?

Good listener.

Do you prefer crunchy peanut butter or smooth peanut butter?   Anything with your peanut butter?

I prefer crunchy, but both are OK

Have you ever been drunk?

Oh yes, but not in many years. I recently was in the wine country of South Africa and went to a wine tasting at the Delaire Winery. I did this on an empty stomach, so I found myself rather tipsy just on that small amount.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that I arrived home safely from my fabulous African safari. What an adventure! I am looking forward to arranging and editing my more than 7000 photos taken in Cape Town, Botswana, and Zambia.

Is your refrigerator, organized or a mess inside?

About half and half. If it’s full, things can be stacked one on top of the other. It’s clean.

If you could be famous for one thing, what would it be?

I’m not sure that I would want to be famous.

What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?

I would like to be fluent in a foreign language, any language.

Where do you eat breakfast?

At the kitchen counter near my computer.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for getting together with my daughter last week. She is now seven months through her pregnancy and the baby boy is getting bigger. What am I looking forward to this week? I leave for my African adventure and my safari tomorrow. Enough said.

What is your favorite type of dog?  (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal, drawing, cartoon or character in a movie or TV show)

I tend to like furry dogs because they are fun to pet. I like dogs with deep brown eyes. Small yappy dogs are not my favorite.

Name one thing not many people know about you.

I saw the The Beatles live on their first American tour.

images-2Have you ever gone scuba diving?  If you haven’t, would you want to?

I have not gone scuba diving and I don’t want to. I love air and I would not like being underwater away from the atmosphere. It is difficult enough for me to snorkel and breathe through a tube with my face in the water.

What was the most important event in your life last week? (anything goes it can be a good nights sleep, finished a reading book, winning the lottery, or getting married)

I consistently got a good night’s sleep. After years of insomnia that is an accomplishment.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that I got to see my boy in another play last week. This week I am looking forward to tying up all the loose ends and packing for my upcoming safari.
